Thea's Table

Thea’s Table is an innovative program for Madison school children and their families experiencing homelessness or crises. Thea’s Table provides nutritious, shelf-stable food for the weekend when the children do not get breakfast and lunch at school. Working with the school social workers, we provide food for 6 meals, 2 snacks, and a treat for each family member. Since its beginning in 2016, Thea’s Table has grown from 30 to 70 families per weekend and has delivered over 100,000 meals.

Impact

  • “Another child was so happy when he came back from his first weekend with food. I truly think this program is one of the most valuable I’ve ever worked with.”
  • "We love the food and that we can count on it every week.”
  • "We are very thankful for it.  It has helped a lot. I think the program is a great idea for helping people who need the extra help.  It is very helpful for families who don’t have transportation or time to get to a pantry.”

Thoreau Elementary Weekend Food Bag Program

The Thoreau Weekend Food Bag program provides a bag of two nutritious meals, healthy snacks, and beverages each Friday during the school year for at-need Thoreau Elementary School students to eat over the weekend. The goal of the program is to reduce food insecurity and help students return to school on Monday ready to learn.

In-school Pantries

Food for Thought’s in-school pantries provides healthy food choices to our students and their families. Our pantry visitors shop in a familiar, secure school setting, without limits to the number of visits and often with access to an interpreter. By seeking feedback from staff and customers, we strive to ensure that each of our in-school pantries meets the needs of that particular school in terms of operation and design. We are pleased that our pantry customers tell us they receive healthier food and face less overall hunger. We invite you to help us continue making a real difference in our community by providing invaluable assistance to food-insecure families!
