Alliant Energy Grant Supports Rock County Mobile Food Pantries
Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin announced today that it has received a $50,000 investment in its Rock County Mobile Pantry Program from Alliant Energy.
Representatives from Second Harvest, Alliant Energy, plus local elected officials, and representatives from local hunger-relief organizations were on-hand for the announcement prior to one of two monthly Mobile Pantry food distributions in Beloit. In addition, the investment will support two Mobile Pantry distributions that are held each month in Janesville.
“Looking out for our neighbors is important,” said Patricia Kampling, Alliant Energy’s Chairman, President and CEO. “Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin reaches into our communities to help feed individuals and families living with the hard reality of food insecurity. Second Harvest is a great partner for a donation of this magnitude – which in turn, means so much to so many people.”
Alliant’s support of the four Mobile Pantry food distributions in Rock County will benefit thousands of people struggling to make ends meet. 1 in 8 people in Rock County are considered food insecure – which means they don’t always have access to enough resources to maintain a healthy diet. For kids under 18 it’s 1 in 4.
“We are incredibly grateful for the long-term partnership between Alliant Energy and Second Harvest to make the communities we both serve better,” says Dan Stein, President/CEO for Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. “Mobile Pantries are critical to our efforts at providing a supplemental source of nutritious food for many in our community who struggle with hunger.”
In fiscal year 2015 Second Harvest served over 48,000 people and almost 1 million pounds of food through the four Rock County Mobile Pantries. 1 in 5 of the people served through Rock County Mobile Pantries are seniors; 40% of those served are children. One-third of all food distributed by Second Harvest goes out through the Mobile Pantry Program.
Those who need food in Rock County may visit the following Mobile Pantry food distributions:
- First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Ave., the second Thursday of the month from 4 to 6 p.m.
- St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1250 E. Racine St., the first Monday of the month from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Registration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
