We are on track to provide 70,000 gallons of healthy and nutritious milk to those facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin this year. While that is an impressive number, the reality is if we hit that target we will have provided just one gallon of milk to less than two-thirds of the people we serve each year. One gallon of milk per person per year is just a small fraction of what the USDA recommends to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. With your help, we can do better!
Another reality we face is that milk is rarely donated, in fact 67% of the milk we are able to provide is milk we have to purchase. That’s why we need your help! In order to provide more milk, we need to raise more of the funds needed to purchase the milk.
You can help us reduce that gap between what is needed and what we're able to provide (a.k.a. the "Milk Gap") by "adopting" a dairy cow today.
When you "adopt" a dairy cow, you are making a donation that we will use to purchase milk and distribute it to those facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. You can choose to "adopt" the milk production from one morning for only $20, a day's worth of milk for $36 or a week's worth for $252! Consider getting your workplace involved by hosting a donation drive to provide one month's worth of milk for $1,080. You can help those struggling with hunger and help reduce the "Milk Gap".
In June, all donations were matched, up to $22,500 thanks to generous sponsors: Roth Cheese, Sysco - Baraboo, Madison Horizons Rotary, Clack Corporation and Compeer Financial.
Beyond feeling good about helping those facing hunger this summer, each adopter will receive an adoption certificate that features the "sassy" bovine beauty of their choice.
