Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin recently nominated Alliant Energy Foundation for a national Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) award. We are pleased to announce that they have been named a finalist for the 2016 National Philanthropy Day® Honors, recognizing extraordinary charitable work by individuals and organizations from across North America.

National Philanthropy Day®, November 15, is the day set aside to remember and recognize the impact philanthropy—charitable giving, volunteering and engagement—has made in our world. The day was first celebrated in 1986 in the U.S. with a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan. It is now celebrated in more than 100 communities around the world and been recognized permanently by the government of Canada.

Alliant Energy Foundation is one of four finalists in the Outstanding Corporation category.

Since 1998 Alliant has given over $46 million to the communities they serve in Iowa and Wisconsin. Here's just a sample of some of their philanthropic efforts:

  • Over 4,500 organizations have been affected by their grants and matching gifts
  • 1,800 students have received scholarships
  • Each year, Alliant Energy employees and retirees volunteer nearly 100,000 hours
  • Alliant Energy Family has donated more than $1.2 million to United Way organizations
  • One of their signature events, Drive Out Hunger, raises more than $300,000 annually for Feeding America food banks in their service territory - including Second Harvest. In this, its 10th year the event will surpass $2.2 million raised for hunger-relief.

Alliant Energy Foundation was voted as a finalist by AFP members and the general public. The AFP Awards Committee will make the final selection in July. Finalists will be honored at a special ceremony in their local community in front of family, friends, colleagues and other supporters during the month of November around National Philanthropy Day.

“We are grateful to the Alliant Energy Foundation for being part of our mission to end hunger,” says Dan Stein, President/CEO of Second harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. “The difference they’ve made in the lives of people who have benefited from their philanthropic efforts in our community is inspiring.”

The National Philanthropy Day® Honors are sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the largest community of charities and charitable fundraisers in the world. AFP works to promote ethical and effective philanthropy and fundraising, and holds an annual honors program to recognize some of the most generous, innovative and dedicated donors and volunteers in the world.
