Kids CafE

Kids Cafe Program Highlights

There are more than 1,600 Kids Cafes in the United States. Seven are in Dane County. Since 1999, Kids Cafes in Dane County have provided over 330,000 meals and hundreds of hours of nutrition education to children. The Kids Cafe Program has been supported by individual and corporate gifts, grants and special events. Click here to support Kids Cafe.

Kids Cafe Sites

June 1999- Second Harvest opened the area's first Kids Cafe with Nehemiah Development Corporation.  The program serves 25 children three meals a week.

March 2000 - The Kids Cafe at the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County provides one hot meal a day, six days a week, to 150 kids during the school year. In the summer, the program serves approximately 400 kids daily.

June 2000 - The Goodman Atwood Community Center Kids Cafe opened. It provides nearly 850 meals each week to 150 children ranging in age from preschool to middle school.

June 2001 - The first ConAgra Feeding Children Better Kids Cafe is at Vera Court Neighborhood Center. During the school year, meals are served to 145 children three times each week, with healthy snacks provided on the alternate two days. Meals are served five days a week to 65 children during its summer program.

July 2004 - A second ConAgra Feeding Children Better Kids Cafe serves children through the Salvation Army's Darbo Drive Community Center. The program provides a meal five days a week for as many as 50 children.

July 2006- The second Boys and Girls Club of Dane County Kids Cafe location opened in the summer of 2006 on Allied Drive.  The Allied site serves about 100 kids 5 days a week.
