Your
Support Makes Meals and Provide Hope
We
are thankful for the generous support of hundreds of caring
individuals, businesses and our sponsors. Amid rising prices,
stagnant wages and job losses that have created an even greater
need for many families and senior citizens to reach out for
help, your support is needed more than ever. Your donations:
-
mean there is help available for a family living paycheck
to paycheck so they don’t have to choose between needed
medical care and food.
-
ensure more children arrive at school ready to learn because
they have had a filling breakfast.
- bring
peace of mind to senior citizens who are given a hot meal
– a lifeline in the face of rising prices for food, heat
and healthcare while their incomes remain fixed.
The
History
The
NBC15 Share Your Holidays to eliminate hunger campaign
began in 1996 through the efforts of late NBC15 News Anchor
Mike McKinney and NBC15 management. They teamed up with Second
Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and the Wisconsin National
Guard to collect enough food and funds from the community
to provide 46,000 meals to those in need. Fourteen
years and more than 17 million meals later, NBC15 Share
Your Holidays is the largest food and fund drive in
southwestern Wisconsin. In 2008, 2.4 million meals
were raised. Added in 1997, the School Food Drive helps students
become more aware of hunger in their community and make a
difference in the lives of those in need by sharing and volunteering.
